Training of Entrepreneurs
An enterprise based competition designed to spot and develop young entrepreneurs and to introduce new empowering opportunities for young people, this program is part of the department’s entrepreneur development programs. This is an experiencial development model in which youths are directly involved in running existing social enterprises to help them shape their own businesses through hands-on experince.
An idea that was borrowed from a concept that was developed by LifeLine Youth (UK), Zimbabwean CHHs, who are our first target group are set to be trained in different thematic areas of their choice in the running of business such as marketing, sales & management, business development, bookkeeping and project management.
To get maximum participation from the beneficiaries and have a proper monitoring and evaluation procedure, the youths will run mock companies on the sidelines of real projects being monitored by their project mentors. This will afford them an opportunity for practical experience in the things they learn, measured by the success of the mock enterprises that are the basis for the competition. The most successful enterprise wins at the end of every competition season.
To ensure the sustainability of this program as well as the projects that these beneficiaries will run in real life, the youth department has been involved in the running of Shape the World enterprises, from where we hope to extract most of our models of good practice for the successful implemantation of this initiative.
