Small grains

The project will address household food insecurity in the semiarid areas of the country by promoting the growth of small grains like sorghum, millets and legumes that are known to survive under adverse conditions. Small grains are a good source of carbohydrates and proteins, this will help in meeting the nutritional requirements of households. To increase the acceptance of small grains processing techniques that will reduce the processing requirements will be introduced and encouraged like the use of dehullers. Processing centres within communities will be established in the processing helping entrepreneurs realize their dreams. Workshops on proper agronomic practices, processing and help in marketing will be provided together with extension services. This will encourage an increased adoption of the crops and enable households to add value to the products. Multi cropping and crop rotations will be promoted under these initiatives.
